Trans-Tasman family double

Big Bay Wolf completed a winning family double for Waikato Stud Thursday afternoon when he produced a strong front-running display over 1400m to score at Hawkesbury.

The Tivaci colt is a son of the Savabeel mare Costume, who was twice successful at Group 1 level, and his half-sister Ensemble produced the Ocean Park filly Quinsea, who was successful at Ashburton.

Big Bay Wolf is trained at Randwick by John O’Shea and finished an encouraging third-on debut at Kembla Grange last month before breaking his maiden today.

He was quickly into stride for rider Tyler Schiller to make the running, and he rallied strongly in the straight to win by three-quarters of a length.

“John was pretty happy for me to go forward, and he relaxed nicely before I upped the tempo 600m from home,” Schiller said.

“It really suited him, and he kicked well in the last 200m.”

Big Bay Wolf was sold on behalf of Waikato Stud by Ohukia Lodge at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale, where he was purchased by Albert Bosma’s Go Racing for $180,000.

His dam Costume has an unraced juvenile filly by Super Seth and a yearling son of Ardrossan.
