Breakthrough win for Ocean Park’s son
The well-related Major Makeover was sent out favourite at Benalla on Sunday afternoon and the lightly raced three-year-old duly lived up to expectations.
Trained by Patrick Payne, the son of Ocean Park had placed in two of his previous three appearances and ran out an effortless winner at the end of 1400 metres.
Rider Billy Egan followed the pace on the fence before angling into the clear with 250 metres to run and the gelding wound up powerfully to win going away by 1.75l.
Major Makeover was bred by Waikato Stud and purchased out of its draft at last year’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale by Payne for $100,000.
His dam Glam Slam was a talented performer who won the Listed Creswick Stakes and the daughter of Pins has also starred as a broodmare with all six of her foals to race now successful.
Glam Slam, who produced a filly by Banquo last season, is a half-sister to the multiple stakes winner Crepe De Chine from the esteemed Waikato Stud family of the two-time Group 1-winning half-siblings Glamour Puss and Vision And Power.
