Tivaci’s son on Derby trail
Gold Wolf added early winning momentum to a summer stakes target when he successfully resumed at Moe on Friday afternoon.
The Waikato Stud-bred son of Tivaci enjoyed a let-up after running fourth at Cranbourne at his second appearance and was produced in forward condition to return over 1600 metres.
On another front, it was a welcome victory for the Matamata farm as they will offer a half-brother by Savabeel as Lot 110 at next month’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale.
Gold Wolf settled three back on the fence under Neil Farley before angling off the fence 600 metres from home.
He improved to be fourth at the top of the straight and rounded off strongly in the run home.
“The distance suited him, and we hoped he wasn’t too fresh; his jump-outs had been good, and he will get further in the distance,” co-trainer David Feek said.
“It was a really good performance, and we are looking at taking him to Hobart for the Tasmanian Derby (Listed 2200m); we’ll raise the bar sensibly and have a bit of fun with him.”
An $80,000 Karaka graduate, Gold Wolf is out of the winning Rock ‘N’ Pop mare Gold Spice, who also finished runner-up in the G3 Sunline Vase.
She is a granddaughter of the G3 Lowland Stakes winner Sahrhys, and her daughter Rhysess was successful in the G3 Cuddle Stakes.
