Impressive Randwick return from Kinloch
Kinloch returned to racing in a blaze of glory on Saturday when he thundered to an upset victory at Randwick.
The Kris Lees-trained son of I Am Invincible hadn’t raced for five months but was produced in prime order for his first-up test over 1200 metres, and his 30-1 victory wasn’t unexpected.
“All his work had been good leading into this, and so was his trials, and he’s got a very good turn of foot, so it wasn’t a surprise,” stable representative Danny Greer said.
Part-owned by Waikato Stud, Kinloch drifted back from his outside barrier and unleashed with an electrifying finishing burst to overhaul his rivals.
“I was pretty confident, he travelled pretty well throughout, and it felt like he was going to do something – he’s got an amazing turn of foot,” successful rider Nash Rawiller said.
Kinloch was purchased out of the draft of breeder Jamieson Park, who remained in the ownership group, at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale by agent Bruce Perry for $300,000, who also has a racing share in the six-year-old.
He is a son of the More Than Ready mare More Beautiful, who won five races and is a half-sister to the G1 WATC Derby winner Grand Journey and to the dam of the G1 Galaxy H. winner Griante.
