Ocean Park’s son goes all the way
Lightly raced five-year-old Deep Tempest added to his record on Sunday afternoon when he bounced back from a last start failure to win over 1600 metres at the Sunshine Coast.
The son of Ocean Park had been below par at Eagle Farm, but turned his fortunes around in style for trainer David Vandyke and jockey Ryan Maloney.
He bounced straight to the front to set an easy tempo and lengthened stride the run home to win unchallenged.
Bred by Waikato Stud, Deep Tempest was purchased out of the Matamata nursery’s draft at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale for $40,000 by Breeze Up Bloodstock and subsequently realised $50,000 when reoffered at the Ready to Run Sale.
He is a son of the late Pins mare Haberdashery, a half-sister to the G1 Queensland Derby winner Lachlan River who did a fine job at stud with all eight of her foals to race successful.
They include Deep Tempest’s sister Fabric, who won the G2 Queen of the South Stakes and the Savabeel mare Sewreel, who claimed an edition of the Listed Taranaki Oaks Prelude.
Taken in command with treble at Flemington
Ardrossan’s promising son Taken extended his winning streak to three with a dominant all-the-way performance in the Darren Galley Mile (1600m) at Flemington. Bred by the Dewar Partnership, the progressive three-year-old showed class and determination, continuing to underline the impact Ardrossan is making with his early runners.
