Melbourne beckons quality Savabeel filly

Savabeel’s gifted daughter Certainly is likely to head to Australia off the back of her impressive victory in today’s G3 Mufhasa Stakes over 1400 metres.

The Waikato Stud-bred and raced three-year-old attacked the line strongly to claim top honours and deliver a first victory on the new Ellerslie surface for trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson and jockey Opie Bosson.

“Potentially, she will go to Melbourne for a three-year-old fillies’ race (G3 Alexandra Stakes, 1600m) at Moonee Valley later this month,” Bergerson said.

“It’s a massive thank you to Waikato Stud and a pleasure to train a Savabeel filly like her.”

Certainly, who had won once from her previous four appearances and was an unlucky sixth in the G1 Levin Classic, enjoyed a cosy run three back on the fence.

She was in desperate need of room into the straight and, once into the clear, she lengthened stride impressively for rider Opie Bosson to win in style.

“Opie was very patient and then got the split. She has always showed us plenty at home and should keep going on with it now,” Bergerson said.

Certainly is out of the Pins mare Frankly, who won four races up to 1600m and has a 100 percent record at stud.

All four of her foals to race have been successful, including Ocean Park’s son Ocean Beyond, who is a two-time winner at Listed level in the Straight Six Handicap and the Mitchell McKenzie Stakes.

Frankly is a half-sister to the Listed Lightning Handicap winner Keano and from the family of G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas and G1 Levin Classic winner Madison County.

The mare has an unraced juvenile sister to Ocean Beyond and produced a filly last year by Noverre before a return visit to Savabeel’s Group 1-winning son.

Wymark doubles up at Newcastle

Promising three-year-old Wymark was untested over 1850 metres at Newcastle on Saturday afternoon to win his second race on the bounce.

The son of Savabeel had broken his maiden on the track at his previous appearance and he waltzed home for consecutive victories on the course.

Trained by Michael Freedman, Wymark jumped well to lob along in third spot before rider Zac Wadick slipped him more rein across the top.

The Waikato Stud-bred and sold gelding strode to the front at the top of the straight and with a minimum of effort, romped clear to win by nearly 10 lengths.

Wymark is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Pasadena, who is a sister to the former champion three-year-old, multiple Group 1 winner and sire Alamosa.

Their dam is the Centaine mare Lodore Mystic, a sister to the G2 City of Sails winner Perfect World and to the dam of the G1 Diamond Stakes winner Dal Cielo with the G1 Schweppes Oaks heroine Lights Of Heaven also on the pedigree page.

Pasadena’s filly by Savabeel was purchased by Te Akau’s David Ellis at Karaka last month and the mare is currently in foal to Noverre.
