Wymark set for feature 3YO events
Stakes prospect Wymark continued his hot run of form in city company on Saturday afternoon with
success at Rosehill.
The Michael Freedman-trained son of Savabeel downed older opposition when stepped up to 1900 metres to complete a hat-trick of wins following successes at Newcastle.
“He has probably surprised me a little bit with how much he has kept improving as I have stretched his races out, as early doors I thought he was a 1400m-miler type,” Freedman said.
“Since we gelded him and brought him back this preparation, he has just kept getting better and better.
“It’s exciting. We will have a look at the G2 Tulloch Stakes in two weeks’ time and then see what happens after that.”
He is keen to follow a preparation similar to another Waikato Stud graduate in Major Beel, who finished runner-up in last year’s Tulloch before landing the G1 Australian Derby, which shapes as a natural target.
“It has been an interesting form race this over the past couple of years,” Freedman said.
He lobbed along close to the pace under rider Tommy Berry before peeling three wide at the top of the straight and was too good in the run home.
Wymark was offered on behalf of breeder Waikato Stud by Sledmere Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was sold to Mick Wallace for A$200,000.
He is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Pasadena, a sister to the former champion three-year-old, multiple Group 1 winner and sire Alamosa.
Their dam is the Centaine mare Lodore Mystic and she is a sister to the G2 City of Sails winner Perfect World and to the dam of the G1 Diamond Stakes winner Dal Cielo with the G1 Schweppes Oaks heroine Lights Of Heaven also on the pedigree page.
Pasadena’s Savabeel filly sold to Te Akau’s David Ellis at Karaka in January for $80,000 and the mare had a filly by Noverre last year and is in foal to Tivaci.

There are under ten left to foal and we’re looking forward to the end of that after kicking off in August.
The breeding shed is starting to get a bit patchy now as we come towards the end of the breeding season down here. That has gone extremely well throughout the whole season and we’re well and truly past the 600 individual mares now, and the stallions have gone extremely well as have the team there.
