Sydney options for Wolfy
Nick Ryan will look at targets further afield for Wolfy after his highly regarded son of Tivaci returned to winning ways at Caulfield on Saturday afternoon.
The Flemington trainer was delighted to see the colt add to his record when he prevailed in a driving finish at the end of 1200 metres.
Wolfy had been unplaced when he resumed in the G3 Zeditave Stakes three weeks ago and had been given three weeks to recover from his first-up run.
“There was a few anxious moments and it’s good to see him back on track after things didn’t go right in stakes company,” Ryan said.
“He is going to improve a lot and I’ll see how he pulls up, but there are a few options for him in Sydney.”
The Waikato Stud graduate drifted to last in the running before rider Jamie Mott angled him wide at the top of the straight and the three-year-old finished determinedly for the third win of his eight-start career.
“I’ve got a high opinion of him and he will get better with more racing. I think 1400 metres might be his go now,” Ryan said.
Wolfy was purchased by Ryan for A$280,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he was offered on behalf of Waikato Stud by Sledmere Stud.
He is out of the Savabeel mare She’s Popular whose dam It Girl is a sister to the late multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Sacred Falls.
She’s Popular has produced two further colts by Tivaci since Wolfy and is now in foal to Ocean Park.

The breeding shed is starting to get a bit patchy now as we come towards the end of the breeding season down here. That has gone extremely well throughout the whole season and we’re well and truly past the 600 individual mares now, and the stallions have gone extremely well as have the team there.
