Ardrossan 3YO impresses again

Exciting three-year-old Pure Alpha continued the fast start he has made to his career with another smooth performance on the Kensington track at Randwick.

The Chris Waller-trained son of Waikato Stud’s young stallion Ardrossan now has a brace of wins and two runner-up finishes from his four appearances.

“We came here with a lot of confidence and he worked through his gears and knuckled down late,” stable representative Zane Jones said.

“Stepping up in grade and in distance is in the realm for him now.”

Pure Alpha purred along in the trail and came across heels in the straight before lengthening stride for rider James McDonald to account for his older rivals at the end of 1400 metres.

“He’s a really nice horse and very progressive that’s for sure,” he said.

“A mile should be no problem for him and he’ll shoot through the grades.”

Bred by Lib Petagna’s JML Bloodstock, who remained in the ownership group after Pure Alpha was sold following a Taupo trial placing last season from Stephen Marsh’s Cambridge stable and now races in the colours of Ozzie Kheir.

He is the first foal of the Written Tycoon mare Bridgewater who is a half-sister to the G3 Tattersall’s Cup winner Index Linked, also successful twice at Listed level and the family of the G1 South Australian Derby winner Leicester.

Bridgewater also has a two-year-old sister to Pure Alpha and a yearling colt by the son of Redoute’s Choice.
