Ardrossan 2YO Too Slick

The Ciaron Maher-trained Jazzclub looks a youngster to follow with confidence following his victory at the first time of asking at Seymour on Tuesday afternoon.

The son of Ardrossan overcame a wide run to score over 1300 metres following his eye-catching effort to score at last month’s Bendigo trials.

“He had certainly come on from his jump-out and he’ll improve a lot again,” jockey Ethan Brown said.

“He’s got plenty of scope and will furnish into a nice three-year-old.”

Jazzclub was parked wide on the pace without cover before he strode to the front half-way down the straight and skipped clear for a two and a-quarter length debut victory.

“We had an awkward draw and I had to take my medicine and sit three deep, but he was still too good,” said Brown, who sported the colours of high-profile owner Ozzie Kheir.

Bred by Waikato Stud, Jazzclub was a unique offering at Inglis’ Classic Yearling Sale where he was the sole representative of Ardrossan.

He was presented on behalf of the Matamata nursery by Sledmere Stud and was knocked down to Victoria’s Group 1 Bloodstock for A$260,000.

Jazzclub is a brother to the multiple winner Cannon Hill with their dam the unraced Pins mare Vanilla Essence, a sister to stakes winner Raid and the family of two-time top-flight winner Stratum Star.

Vanilla Essence produced a colt to Savabeel last season and is back in foal to the multiple champion sire.
