Shailer celebrates with Ocean Park’s son

Paul Shailer’s conditioning skills were to the fore at the Gold Coast this afternoon where the
expatriate New Zealand trainer produced Roller Coaster for an impressive first-up victory.

Shailer had the winning polish on the Waikato Stud-bred and sold son of Ocean Park in his
return over 1700 metres following a four-month break.

“He had been tracking along nicely this preparation and he’d had three trials leading into
this, I thought he would be competitive,” Shailer said.

An $80,000 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale graduate, Roller Coaster settled
well back in the running under Michael Rodd and they speared between runners in the
straight to claim the thick end of the stake.

“He’s come back really well and we may sneak down for the Port Macquarie Cup in three
weeks’ time,” Shailer said.

Roller Coaster is from the family of the late Starcraft, an Australasian and European Group 1
winner before a successful career at stud.
