Another winning cheque for Overdrawn
Emerging four-year-old Overdrawn continued his golden run of form this preparation with another success over 1300 metres at Ellerslie this afternoon.
The Tony Pike-trained son of Shamexpress had been a course and distance winner at his previous appearance and a rise in grade held no fears for him.
Overdrawn, who is part-owned by Waikato Stud, purred along in the trail under Matt Cartwright and once into the clear he was too good in the run home.
“It’s nice to see him put two together the way he has as he seems to have come back a much stronger horse in this prep,” Pike said.
“He wasn’t helped a lot by barrier draws during his three-year-old season, but this time he could go to a new level if he can continue to improve.
“He has now won a Rating 65 and a Rating 75 in successive starts, but as he stays in the same grade from this win, he will line-up here again in a Rating 75 on Melbourne Cup Day and try for three wins in a row at headquarters.”
Pike purchased Overdrawn out of Windsor Park Stud’s draft at Karaka for $150,000 and is a
son of the Northern Meteor mare Max It Out, also the dam of the Listed Southland Guineas
winner Press Charges.
Wee Nessy breaks her maiden in style
Savabeel’s three-year-old filly Wee Nessy impressed at Ellerslie, charging home to break her maiden in dominant fashion. The win marked Savabeel’s 1057th individual winner, with his progeny earnings surpassing $208 million as his legacy continues to grow.
