I Don’t relishes better ground

Improved underfoot conditions at New Plymouth on Friday provided I Don’t with a gilt-edged home track opportunity to add to her record and the Savabeel mare duly took advantage.

The patiently handled five-year-old is raced by co-breeders Waikato Stud and trainer Allan Sharrock and has now won twice from nine appearances.

I Don’t had finished a non-threatening fourth on the course when resuming earlier this month with Sharrock admitting he should have erred on the side of caution.

“She’s a good galloper on top of the ground and it was a bog track last start, I should have scratched her,” he said.

I Don’t was quickly into stride this afternoon to make the running for rider Lisa Allpress.

They slipped clear at the top of the straight and were never in any danger in the run home, coasting to the line with 2.3l to spare on their closest chaser.

I Don’t is a daughter of the No Excuse Needed mare I Do, whose 15 victories included an edition of the Gr.1 Makfi Challenge Stakes.

She is a sister to the Listed Queensland Cup winner Iggi Pop while the second dam Freequent won the Gr.3 New Zealand St Leger and is the grandam of the Gr.2 Tauranga Stakes winner and Gr.1 Livamol Classic runner-up Justaskme.

All five of I Do’s foals to race have been winners and she also has an unraced three-year-old Super Seth filly named Vows and last year produced a colt by Noverre.
