158 For Sav
Waikato Stud’s evergreen Champion sire Savabeel recorded his 158th stakes winner when Essentric Nature landed the Listed Old Comrade Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on Good Friday.
Trained by Grant and Alana Williams, the gelding, who enjoyed a favourable run with cover, edged out pacemaker Sensessional (Sessions) by 0.2 lengths with Bonjoy (Maschino) a further length away in third.
Ridden by Lucy Fiore, Essentric Nature settled well from the barriers before finishing strongly to secure his first black-type success.
The five-year-old now boasts seven wins and three placings, with earnings over $300,000.
Bred by Ultra Thoroughbreds Pty Ltd, the gelding is from a family littered with black-type including his two Group-winning full-siblings Savvy Nature and Addictive Nature, being out of the unraced Carnegie (Sadler’s Wells) mare Generous Nature.
Having recorded his latest G1 winner last weekend when his Waikato Stud-born daughter Belle Cheval (ex Keepa Cheval), won the Gr.1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill, Savabeel continues to churn out the stakes performers.
