First foal for Waikato’s Group 1 winner Skew Wiff
Group 1-winning Savabeel mare Skew Wiff (ex Starvoia), known affectionately as ‘Wiffy’, foaled a filly by Super Seth in the early hours of Wednesday, 5 August.
Group-placed on six occasions – including three at Group 1 level, Skew Wiff saluted in the Gr.1 Westbury Stud Tarzino Trophy (1400m), beating eight Group 1 winners Legarto, Pier, Sharp ‘N’ Smart, La Cruique, Belclare, He’s A Doozy, Pennyweka and Lickety Split.
Skew Wiff campaigned in New Zealand before crossing to Australia, where she claimed the Gr.3 HKJC Stakes (1400m) on Melbourne Cup Day in November 2023 wearing the Waikato Stud colours. She retired from racing in February 2025 having earned $750,000 in prizemoney.
Wiffy’s Super Seth filly is the first foal out of his Group 1-winning dam and is bred on the same cross as the WS-bred, Karaka Millions 2YO-winning filly La Dorada (ex Gold Fever).
Noverre opens new season in winning fashion
Noverre’s three-year-old Spill It (ex Ivy’s Court) opened the new season with a win at Riccarton, flying home over 1200m for Anna Furlong and the Lines family. A $32,500 Karaka yearling, he’s now banked $26,600 from just two starts.
