Ocean Park’s Rip Tide with a late surge to win on debut

A debut to remember, Ocean Park‘s three-year-old son Rip Tide (ex Hurry) stepped out for the first time on Friday at Taupo, and he did not disappoint when he flew down the outside and over the top of his rivals to win by half a length.

Trained by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott of Wexford Stables, the colt jumped from barrier eight of the eight-horse field, and when Craig Grylls asked for effort the colt duley responded to kick down the outside making a dash from last to win by a half length.

Wexford Stables bought him from Waikato Stud’s 2025 NZB Karaka draft for $240,000 (pictured).

Rip Tide is a brother to the Gr.1 VRC Oaks placegetter, Hurry Curry, and is the fifth foal of the Savabeel mare, Hurry. She has an Ardrossan two-year-old filly and a Super Seth filly, while she is due to foal to Super Seth this season.

Ocean Park celebrated a standout season in 2025/26 as the sire of the NZ Filly of the Year and Champion Stayer, Ohope Wins, who won the Gr.1 NZ and Gr.1 Australian Oaks in 2026 – Yulong purchased her privately following her win in the Gr.1 NZ Oaks. Ocean Park stands this season at a fee of $15,000 plus GST (live foal guarantee).
