Ardrossan posts three winners across NZ and Hong Kong

Ardrossan

It’s been a whirlwind week for Ardrossan, the son of Redoute’s Choice, with two winners on Wednesday and another on Thursday across New Zealand and Hong Kong.

First up was four-year-old Bandrossan, a maiden winner over 1600m for trainer Nayton Mitchell and owner-breeder Jackie Howison. The win adds to Ardrossan’s already impressive first-crop stats: 44 foals, 38 runners, and 16 winners – including three Stakes winners – for a strike rate of 42.1% winners to runners.

Later that evening at Happy Valley, the Jamie Richards-trained Sunday’s Serenade made it back-to-back wins, both over 1650m. He too hails from Ardrossan’s first crop.

Afterglo, bred and part-owned by former Waikato Stud Night Foaling Unit Manager Bev Spriggens, made a winning debut at Matamata for trainer Stephen Autridge. She becomes the 10th winner from Ardrossan’s second crop, which has produced 26 runners from 56 foals.

From just three small crops, Ardrossan is striking at 9.1% Stakes winners to runners – not far off fellow Redoute’s Choice son Snitzel, who started with five small crops and sits at 9.6% Stakes winners to runners.

Ardrossan’s rising two-year-olds come from his larger crops, having covered triple-digit books from 2022 to 2024: 110, 160 and 136 foals respectively.

With impressive results from small early numbers and bigger, better books now on the ground, the foundations have been laid – and it’s an exciting time to get behind Ardrossan.
