Ardrossan two-year-old bags feature spot

Ardrossan

A gifted son of Waikato Stud resident Ardrossan has claimed his place in the country’s richest two-year-old event.

Toretto had bagged runner-up cheques in his first two appearances and victory at Ellerslie on Saturday guaranteed him a start in the Restricted Listed TAB Karaka Millions 2YO.

“I have been really happy with him so it’s nice to get the result,” trainer Hollie Wynyard said.

“The goal was to get to the Karaka Million and we’ll be pushing on to that now.”

Toretto kept the leaders within his sights in fifth spot before improving near the turn and he finished strongly to open his winning account.

He was partnered by Ryan Elliot, who had been aboard in both of the youngster’s previous outings.

“At his last start, he wasn’t completely screwed down and today he really put it all together, he’s certainly going the right way,” he said.

Bred by the Dewar Partnership, Toretto was bought out of Landsdowne Park’s draft at Karaka for $165,000 and is a brother to the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes winner Beau Dazzler.

Their dam is the Pentire mare Pwerfect who will have another son of Ardrossan on offer at New Zealand Bloodstock’s National Yearling Sale with Elsdon Park to present Lot 228.
