Australia calling in-form Wewillrock
Another trip across the Tasman beckons for Wewillrock, who returned to winning ways in
dominant fashion at Wanganui on Saturday afternoon.
The son of El Roca made light of his 60kg impost over 1200 metres with a powerful front-running performance to leave no excuses for his Rating 75 rivals.
Wewillrock is raced by Waikato Stud principal Mark Chittick with good friends, the Hawke’s Bay-based brothers Mark and Paul Apatu.
The grandson of multiple stakes winner Wazawatsyn was purchased out of Westbury Stud’s draft at Karaka for $35,000.
“The owners love supporting New Zealand racing, but there are riches in Australia,” said Leah Zydenbos, who trains Wewillrock with Guy Lowry.
“There are some races for him in Sydney so that’s where he may go.”
Wewillrock has now won six times, including a Randwick success last winter and he also has placings to his credit in the G3 Almanzor Trophy, G3 Cambridge Breeders’ Stakes and at Listed level in the June Stakes and City of Napier Sprint.
He was ridden at Wanganui by Jonathan Riddell, who let him stride to the front and they powered clear in the run home to win by three lengths.
“He’s a fair animal and one of my favourites, he’s a very competitive horse.” Riddell said.
