Avebury breaks through in style

Avebury showed promise earlier in the season and she turned potential into performance when successful over 1200 metres at Kembla Grange on Tuesday afternoon.
The daughter of Savabeel placed in all three of her starts during the winter and, following a break, was unplaced when resuming from a wide barrier in the A$250,000 Magic Millions Plate at the Gold Coast.
From a handy gate today, the John O’Shea-trained Waikato Stud graduate was given a perfect run by Brenton Avdulla in fourth spot and she was too good for her rivals in the straight.
Avebury was purchased at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by O’Shea for A$200,000 and is a sister to the multiple winner and G1 Queensland Derby runner-up Paternal.
Their dam is the O’Reilly mare O’Dianne, who was successful as a two-year-old, and she is a daughter of the G3 Frances Tressady S. winner Breezy and the family of the Matamata farm’s international Group 1 winner and sire Starcraft.
