Baywatch one to watch as half-sister to Never Been Kissed salutes at start two

Baywatch (NZ)

Sunday proved to be a good day for Ocean Park, who sired a Trans-Tasman double on Cox Plate weekend – a race he beat All Too Hard and Pierro in back in 2012.

It was Identikit (ex Kit) who kicked off the day’s proceedings, winning Race 2 at Trentham for trainer Lisa Latta over the 2400m journey. The five-year-old mare took her career record to 16 starts for four wins.

Across to Australia, it was the half-sister to Never Been Kissed (Tivaci ex Movie), Baywatch (Ocean Park ex Movie), who, in the deteriorating conditions presented to her at Sale in Victoria, swept past her rivals and was never in doubt winning the 1400m by 2.25 lengths at just her second start.

Bred and raced by Waikato Stud’s principal Mark Chittick, the four-year-old mare is in the stable of Mick Kent who said post-race: “I said to Celine (Gaudray, jockey), ‘you’ve drawn (barrier) one, just go to the front and let her bowl along – she’ll keep galloping, she’s very fit and bred to stay.”

Baywatch is the third live foal from the uncraced Savabeel mare Movie, whose final foal is a three-year-old filly by Tivaci – making her a full sister to Never Been Kissed, and who was retained to race by Waikato Stud. She is yet to have a race start; however, she has been exported to Australia and is registered to be trained by John O’Shea and Tom Charlton.
