Cornflower Blue juvenile goes two-from-two
It was a case of déjà vu on Saturday, 25 October, when the Te Akau tangerine colours held by Out Of The Blue (ex Cornflower Blue) streaked past the winning post at Riccarton.
Partnered by Opie Bosson, the Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson-trained son of Tivaci jumped well, sat one off the fence and flew home winning by a length with his ears pricked to win by a length.
Bred and sold by Waikato Stud at the 2025 New Zealand Bloodstock Karaka Yearling Sale, it was David Ellis CNZM (BAFNZ) who secured him for $60,000.
Out Of The Blue is the second foal from the Savabeel mare Cornflower Blue, who has an Ardrossan yearling colt and foaled a filly by the son of Redoute’s Choice this season.
Ardrossan has an exciting group of 127 yearlings coming through from high-quality mares, and with De Armas winning the first juvenile race of the 2025/26 season with Karaka Millions aims, he’s a sire who is moving on up.
Couples Retreat goes back-to-back for Archibalds
Super Seth’s mare Couples Retreat, bred by Waikato Stud, proved too sharp at Kembla Grange on Saturday, cruising home by two lengths under Mollie Fitzgerald. Purchased for $280,000, she now boasts three wins and three placings from nine starts.
