Debut winner adds to Ardrossan’s growing record
Ardrossan‘s remarkable strike rate continued at Te Rapa on Sunday when Lumbridge Castle produced an impressive performance to win on debut.
The victory became the 56th individual winner for Waikato Stud’s son of Redoute’s Choice, who continues to outperform his opportunities. From those 56 winners, 17 are black type horses, underlining the quality Ardrossan is producing from relatively small crops and providing every indication that his best years are still ahead.
Prepared by Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott at Wexford Stables, Lumbridge Castle was a $100,000 purchase from the Landsdowne Park draft and looked a horse with a bright future as he made a winning start to his career.
Drawn barrier seven in the field of nine, the three-year-old travelled strongly throughout before extending clear over 1200 metres to score by a length.
Bred by the Dewar Partnership, Lumbridge Castle is the second live foal from the Iffraaj mare Exhibit.
Ardrossan will stand the 2026 breeding season at an unchanged fee of $20,000 plus GST, live foal guarantee.
