Deserved win for Savabeel 3YO
Promising three-year-old Sir Albert turned his fortunes around over 1600 metres on the synthetic track at Riccarton for the first winning strike of his fledgling career.
The Waikato Stud graduate had finished runner-up at his previous start at Timaru where he was luckless after copping a check at barrier rise and he made no mistake on Thursday afternoon at his fifth outing.
The Terri Rae-trained son of Savabeel got back in the running and, once into the clear early in the run home, wound up powerfully under leading rider Michael McNab.
Sir Albert is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Diana Dors, whose first two foals Colville House and Sly Corner have been multiple winners in Australia.
The dam is a sister to the G2 Makybe Diva S. winner Vigor and the G2 Avondale Guineas winner Joey Massino and a half-sister to the inaugural Karaka Million winner Vincent Mangano.
Diana Dors has a yearling filly by Tivaci and foaled a daughter of Ardrossan last season before visiting Staphanos.
G3 TAB Mile trifecta for Waikato sires
Recording his first Group victory, and second at black-type level after success in the Listed Lindauer Stewards Stakes some 12 months back, Ocean Park gelding Mystic Park led home an impressive one-two-three result for the Waikato stallions, defeating Sir Albert (Savabeel) and Cannon Hill (Ardrossan) in Wednesday’s Gr.3 TAB Mile (1600m) at Riccarton Park.
