Lippy enjoys final say

Tivaci’s son Lippy hinted at a fast return to winning ways last month and he duly delivered in style at the Phar Lap Raceway on Sunday.
The Andrew Carston-prepared four-year-old had finished an eye-catching effort on the synthetic track at Riccarton at his previous outing and posted the quickest last 800, 600 and 200 metres of his race to finish sixth after missing the jump.
The Waikato Stud-bred and raced Lippy again drifted off the pace today before improving wide near the turn and produced an irresistible finish in the hands of apprentice Yogesh Atchamah for the third victory of his career.
“He is a nice horse who has been going good races and deserved that one,” Carston said.
“He doesn’t like it much wetter than what he struck so he could have one more on the synthetic track at home before he goes to the paddock.
“I’m looking to him coming back even stronger for his next campaign.”
Lippy was originally passed in at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale where he was offered on behalf of the Matamata nursery by Ohukia Lodge.
He had opened his winning account from Andrew Forsman’s stable before relocating south to Cartson’s team.
Lippy is a son of the Savabeel mare Cheex, a half-sister to the Listed Wellesley Stakes winner Maritimo and the family of the farm’s two-time Group 3 winner Dating.
Also the dam of the dual Victorian winner Lottacheex, Cheex’s daughter of Super Seth sold to Peter Moody for $280,000 at Karaka earlier this year and the mare is back in foal to the Group 1-winning son of Dundeel.
