Look for the WS in 2025!

Yearling catalogues for the 2025 Australasian Yearling Sales Series have been released by Magic Millions, New Zealand Bloodstock and Inglis, with Waikato Stud set to present drafts at all three major sales.

Noverre, a standout NZ$800,000 yearling from Waikato Stud’s 2020 draft, is a striking Group 1-winning son of Savabeel, out of the Group 3-winning juvenile Magic Dancer. His first-crop yearlings will debut in 2025, generating significant anticipation.

With buyers gaining access to active Waikato Stud families, we’ve highlighted a few standout lots to watch.

Eleven yearlings will be offered on the Gold Coast including four by first-season sire Noverre, two each by the sire on fire Super Seth and nine-time Champion Sire Savabeel, along with Tivaci, Maurice and Ardrossan with one apiece.

Across the WS draft there are siblings to WS-bred stars including Major Beel, winner of the Gr.1 ATC Derby (Lot 452 by Savabeel making him a full brother), plus Group 1 winner Skew Wiff (Lot 988 by Noverre making this filly a three-quarter sister to her), two-time Hong Kong winner Patch Of Cosmo (Lot 20 by Ardrossan) and the Annabel Neasham and Rob Archibald-trained winner Couples Retreat (Lot 307 by Tivaci).

Another exciting addition is the first foal out of the Gr.1 Flight Stakes winner Never Been Kissed (Lot 717), a colt selling on day three.

NZB KARAKA YEARLING SALE
Date: 26 – 30 January 2025

Sixty-six WS-bred yearlings will be presented at the Karaka sales complex in 2025. For Waikato Stud, the Karaka draft has produced phenomenal results with Group 1 winners Atishu (2019’s draft), Probabeel (2018), Savaglee (2023), Noverre (2020), Mo’unga (2019), Aegon (2019), Amarelinha (2019) to name but a few.

It’s a difficult lineup to summarise as all 66 yearlings come from deep and active WS families, all brought up on the Waikato land that produces on average 12 stakes winners per season. This time we will look at just two – one by Savabeel and another by his son, Noverre.

Lot 337: Savabeel ex Suavito, colt: what a pedigree! By a nine-time Champion out of a dual Group 1-winning mare, Suavito, whose daughter, Sethito, won by six-and-a-half lengths on Tuesday, 19 November!

Lot 493: Noverre ex Bonneval, colt: and here is another phenomenal mating! By a Group-1 winning son of Savabeel out of the three-time Group 1-winning mare Bonneval who was crowned NZ Horse of the Year – twice!, Champion 3YO & Stayer in NZ and Champion Middle Distance Horse in NZ – add this one to your shortlist.

INGLIS CLASSIC YEARLING SALE
Date: 9 – 11 February 2025

Eight yearlings – six colts and two fillies – will represent WS at Inglis’ Riverside Stables sales complex in February. Ardrossan, Savabeel, Super Seth and Tivaci will all have two each and the first lot through is by none other than Super Seth and received a good pedigree update thanks to Tuxedo’s (Tivaci ex Ball Gown) victory in the Gr.3 Elsdon Park Wellington Stakes.

Bred on the same cross as two-time Hong Kong winner Patch Of Cosmo is Lot 264, a colt by Super Seth out of a Savabeel mare. Super Seth is doing a phenomenal job in all jurisdictions, he is the only NZ first-season sire in the last 12 years to produce five individual Australian winners.

Another highlight offering is Lot 272, a colt by nine-time Champion Sire Savabeel and with a stallion’s pedigree being from the family of All Too Hard and Black Caviar. The Savabeel ex Pins cross has produced five Group 1 winners including I Wish I Win and Probabeel.
