New Furture Folks breaks through at Sha Tin
New Future Folks (Savabeel x Kona) claimed his maiden victory in Hong Kong in dominant fashion, leading all the way over 1400m at Sha Tin on Sunday evening.
Trained by Michael Chang and ridden by Australian jockey Ben Thompson, the gelding impressed in his fifth career start.
A $290,000 purchase from Waikato Stud’s 2022 NZB Karaka draft, secured by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, New Future Folks comes from a standout pedigree. He is out of Kona, a descendant of the illustrious family of Horlicks and Brew. Kona is due to foal to Ocean Park in 2024.
This victory adds to an incredible seven weeks for WS-bred Savabeel progeny, joining Atishu (Gr.1 Empire Rose Stakes), Savaglee (Gr.1 NZ 2000 Guineas), Nereus (Gr.3 Counties Cup) and Jedibeel (Listed Razor Sharp Stakes), who became Savabeel’s 146th individual stakes winner.
