Newitt gives Savabeel 3YO full marks
Jockey Craig Newitt was full of praise for Gottabesavvy after they successfully combined at Moe this
afternoon.
Newitt gave the Waikato Stud-bred son of Savabeel an economical run in the trail and the three-year-old took full advantage to break his maiden at his fourth appearance.
“I was always confident I was going to win and my bloke was just waiting for me to really ask him in the straight,” Newitt said.
“I got my whip knocked clean out of my hand and went the last 300 metres without a stick so he’s done a really good job.”
Prepared by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, Gottabesavvy had placed in his first two starts before he was unplaced in the G2 Vase at Moonee Valley and appreciated the step back in class to prevail in his Moe test over 2050 metres.
He was offered at the Inglis Ready to Race Sale by Ohukia Lodge and knocked down to Busuttin Racing and Clarke Bloodstock for A$100,000.
Gottabesavvy is a son of the O’Reilly mare Girls On Top, who won on eight occasions, and all five of her foals to race have been successful. She is a half-sister to the former Singapore Horse of the Year Currency.
