Noverre opens new season in winning fashion

Noverre closed out his first season as a sire with an Australian winner in the two-year-old Hailstones (ex Coolstorm) for Annabel and Rob Archibald and he’s picked up right where he left off, with a winner to open the new racing season.

Three-year-old Spill It, trained by Anna Furlong for owners Terry, Jane and Connor Lines, scored at Riccarton over 1200m, flying home to win by 1.25 lengths on a Heavy 9 track and clock the fastest final-four-furlong sectional of the day.

Jockey Yogesh Atchamah settled Spill It with cover from barrier eight, carrying 57kg down the Riccarton straight. Six lengths off the lead with 200m to run, the youngster was asked to go to work and quickened impressively to score at just his second career start.

Bred by D Courtney-O’Connor, Mapperley Stud Ltd and Mrs A Whitelock, Noverre’s three-year-old son is out of the winning Choisire mare Ivy’s Court, the dam of three named foals – all winners.

Spill It was a $32,500 yearling purchase from the draft of Dominique Farms at the 2025 NZB Karaka Yearling Sale and has already picked up $26,600 in two starts.

Noverre is stacked with numbers coming through, and Spill It’s performance on the opening day of the new season is further proof: the Savabeel son’s progeny were brilliant at two, and are shaping up to excel at three as well.

Noverre stands for an unchanged fee of $100 plus GST this season.
