Ocean Park filly on target for Oaks
Lightly tried filly Hurry Curry took another impressive winning step at Flemington on Sunday toward her Group 1 spring target.
In her third appearance for trainer Danny O’Brien, she was untroubled to claim the Oaks
Preview over 1800 metres under a faultless ride from Jye McNeil who sported the colours of
breeder Waikato Stud.
“She’s a lovely filly and she’s by Ocean Park who can get a really good middle-distance
horse,” O’Brien said.
“She’s only been to the races three times and in her first it was only 1200 metres and then
she won very convincingly at Bairnsdale and it was pretty soft again today.
“She’ll be better again in the autumn, but we’ll press on as long as she does well.
“She probably won’t run for four weeks until Caulfield and then the Wakeful and the Oaks.”
Hurry Curry jumped well and settled fourth off the fence before she cruised to the front 400
metres from home for Jye McNeil to put the issue beyond any doubt.
“Jye did a great job and we wanted to be positive and he gave her the perfect ride,” O’Brien
said.
A half-sister to recent winner The Mansman, Hurry Curry is a daughter of the Savabeel mare
Hurry who is a three-quarter sister to the late multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire
Sacred Falls.
She has an Ocean Park yearling colt and is due to foal this season to Ardrossan.
Super result in Hong Kong
Super Seth’s impact is growing, highlighted by his son Patch Of Cosmo’s impressive victory at Sha Tin. After three prior near-misses, the three-year-old triumphed over 1200 metres, showcasing his potential. Bred by Waikato Stud and sold for $230,000, Patch Of Cosmo is a promising contender, marking a significant milestone for his young sire in Hong Kong.
