Ocean Park filly one to love
Waikato Stud’s racing team is enjoying a good run with the well-related Loved One the latest success story for the Matamata farm.
The John O’Shea-trained filly won for the second time from a handful of starts when successful yesterday at Newcastle.
She was making her first appearance following a break and proved far superior over 1200 metres.
Loved One is a daughter of Ocean Park and the winning Danasinga mare More To Love.
The dam of the multiple winner Save The Date, More to Love is out of the broodmare gem Flying Floozie.
All six of her foals to race were successful and includes the New Zealand, Australian and European Group One winner Starcraft.
More recent black type form has been added to the family by the Gr.2 Cal Isuzu Stakes winner Sports Illustrated.
Wolfy reacts well to change
A tactical change by trainer Nicky Ryan saw Tivaci’s son, Wolfy, triumph at Flemington on Saturday. Dropping back to 1200 metres with blinkers applied, the Waikato Stud-bred four-year-old stormed to victory under Ethan Brown, showcasing a powerful finish to secure his third career win.

Slipper Island returned to winning ways at Trentham with a powerful finish over 1200 metres, ending a 17-month drought despite consistent form with seven placings. Trainer Tony Pike praised the stable favourite, describing him as “frustrating but talented.” A son of No Nay Never, he was purchased for $180,000 at Karaka.
