Ocean Park mare runs up to expectations
Allan Sharrock’s confidence in Confetti was repaid at Hawera where the lightly tried mare
broke her maiden.
The New Plymouth trainer had tipped her as his best chance on this afternoon’s program
and the daughter of Ocean Park kept her part of the bargain with a smart victory over 1200
metres.
Sharrock had been highly impressed with the stable newcomer’s 1000 metre heat win at last
month’s Foxton trials.
Bred and raced by Waikato Stud, she replicated that form at Hawera where she improved
quickly after a tardy start to camp in behind the pace and let down strongly for rider Lisa
Allpress in the run home.
Confetti made two appearances from the stable of Peter and Dawn Williams and on their
retirement relocated to Sharrock’s yard.
She is the first foal of the Rock ‘N’ Pop mare Party Pooper, who is back in foal to Ocean
Park, and she is out of a sister to the G2 Theo Marks Stakes winner and G1 Epsom
Handicap placegetter Mackintosh.
The G2 Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Viennetta, who was also second in
the G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes, is another feature name on the
pedigree page.
