Ocean Park starts new season with a bang

Already the sire of four Group 1 winners, Ocean Park wrapped up the 2024/25 racing season with 10 Stakes horses, including Kovalica, Arcadia Park and Mystic Park. Just 11 days into the new season, the Group 1-producing sire is once again making his presence felt.

This week alone, he produced five winners. At Eagle Farm, Le Chocolat – trained by Chris Waller- kicked things off with a smart victory in Race 1 over 1400m. Out of the winning Anabaa mare La Praline, he is the sixth foal from the mare and was bred by the Taylor family, who remain in the ownership – click to watch the replay.

On Saturday, Ocean Park continued his strong run with a treble. Green Park scored at Roma in Australia, while Elysian Fields took out Race 5 over 1400m at Ruakaka for local trainer-owner Terry Powell.

The winning streak was capped at New Plymouth, where Indian Gold saluted for owner-breeders Peter Grieve and Barry Thomas CNZN, in the care of trainer Allan Sharrock.

On Sunday, With Grace took out Race 1 at Taupo, the Noverre @ Waikato Stud maiden over 1800m. The five-year-old mare was sold by Windsor Park Stud, who co-bred her along with Alchemy Family Trust and racaes in the all too familiar colours of Go Racing.

“He always has a good horse – they’re good, tough racehorses. He’s getting into the latter part of his career now and he’s a very good, safe, proven horse,” said Waikato Stud principal, Mark Chittick.

To date, he has produced 339 winners for 936 wins, 23 stakes winners and progeny earnings exceeding $56 million. Ocean Park will stand at f $15,000 plus GST this season.
