Potent pedigree strikes again
A hot Waikato Stud family was again to the fore on Friday afternoon at Murwillumbah where Glebe romped to her maiden victory over 1200 metres.
The patiently handled four-year-old daughter of Savabeel is a sister to the talented Savaglee, who won last season’s G3 Matamata Slipper and successfully opened his three-year-old career at Taupo during the week.
Glebe is prepared by champion trainer Chris Waller and was presented in prime order in her first appearance since May.
“She was ready, otherwise Chris wouldn’t have started her on this track,” winning rider Rory Hutchings said.
The four-year-old drifted back from a wide gate before improving quickly across the top and let down strongly in the heavy conditions to cruise home by three lengths.
“We thought she would have the class edge on them and she is only going to get better,” Hutchings said.
Savaglee is out of the O’Reilly mare Glee, who is a half-sister to the dam of dual Group 1 winner Orchestral with her pedigree page also featuring the top-flight winners Daffodil, Atishu, Aegon and Good Faith.
The dam had a Savabeel filly last season and is due to foal again to the champion stallion.
Farm yarns: Mark Chittick
There are under ten left to foal and we’re looking forward to the end of that after kicking off in August.
The breeding shed is starting to get a bit patchy now as we come towards the end of the breeding season down here. That has gone extremely well throughout the whole season and we’re well and truly past the 600 individual mares now, and the stallions have gone extremely well as have the team there.
