Promising Debut Winners For Banquo and Ardrossan

Racing at Woodville on Wednesday saw impressive debut winners Palladium and Park In The Bar bringing further attention to their stakes-winning sires Banquo and Ardrossan.

The second race of the day saw the Cody Cole trained Banquo mare Palladium make her debut over 1200m in the Marsh Racing Maiden.

Coming off a recent barrier trial second placed effort, the Argonaut Racing & Breeding Ltd-bred grey mare was well supported in the betting, jumping to the lead under apprentice Hayley Hassman before eventually settling in second behind the fancied Wave On Bye.

Maintaining her position for the majority of the race, Hassman came to the outside of the leader as they entered the straight, powering to the lead before winning in style by just shy of a length and three quarters.

Not to be outdone by fellow WS stallion, Ardrossan was represented by the winner of the third race of the day, the KB Motors (1200m) in the shape of 3yo filly Park In The Bar.

Starting well in the market off two trial efforts, winning the first one before then finishing second, the Bill Thurlow trained filly went forward from barrier nine in the 14-horse field, eventually crossing the field to settle in the lead.

With apprentice jockey Floor Moerman controlling the race from the front, the Leanach Lodge Ltd & I A Polley bred filly cornered for home, and while she was headed momentarily, she showed plenty of grit and determination to regain the lead and pull away.

Scoring by a length and three quarters, the filly looks an outstanding purchase for connections who parted ways with just $8,000 for the Leanach Lodge book 2 graduate.

While she does hold a nomination for the G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas (1600m) on November 1, the race may come a little soon for the daughter of Ardorssan, but it does highlight the opinion connections do have of her.

Already the sire of the promising G3 winner Justin Casse, Written Tycoon’s son BANQUO is standing this season for a fee $5,000 plus GST, LFG, while Redoute’s Choice’s son ARDROSSAN, the sire of nine stakes winner including recent G1ATC Flight Stakes runner up De Armas, is standing for a fee of $20,000 plus GST, LFG.
