SA Derby on Gold Wolf’s radar

Tivaci

David Feek will consider a second Classic tilt with Gold Wolf following the son of Tivaci’s dour victory over 2400 metres in Saturday’s Listed Galilee Series Final at Caulfield.

The Mornington-based horseman, who trains with wife Coral, was delighted with the gelding’s gallant victory in the hands of Neil Farley.

“It’s a huge result for the team and a big thank you to Neil, who knows the horse well and gave him an absolute peach and the further he went the better he got,” Feek said.

The Waikato Stud-bred and sold Gold Wolf settled in the last trio before he responded to hard riding 800 metres from home to pick up ground and rounded off strongly in the straight for his second win from eight starts.

“The South Australian Derby (G1, 2500m) has to be an option now, but we’ll see how the horse pulls up,” Feek said.

Gold Wolf finished runner-up in the Listed Tasmanian Derby two runs back before he finished midfield at Sandown where he carried 59.5kg against older opposition.

“He was still very raw in the Tasmanian Derby and he’s continued to learn and develop since then,” Feek said.

An $80,000 Karaka graduate, Gold Wolf is out of the winning Rock ‘N’ Pop mare Gold Spice, who also finished runner-up in the G3 Sunline Vase.

She is a granddaughter of the G3 Lowland Stakes winner Sahrhys, and her daughter Rhysess was successful in the G3 Cuddle Stakes.

Gold Spice’s Savabeel colt sold to Annabel Neasham and Blandford Bloodstock at Karaka earlier this year for $130,000 and the mare is back in foal to the farm’s champion stallion.
