Savabeel 4YO trumps Caulfield rivals

Savabeel

Savabeel four-year-old Savoir Faire doubled his Australian tally when he produced a dominant staying performance at Caulfield on Saturday.

The Mark Walker-trained representative has now won twice since relocating to Te Akau’s Cranbourne base with his latest success delivered over 2000 metres in the hands of apprentice Celine Gaudray.

The Waikato Stud-bred and sold Savoir Faire drifted to the tail of the field from the outside gate and was on the move 800 metres from home and held a sustained gallop to score by two lengths.

“That’s how he needs to be ridden, and it was a lovely ride by Celine,” Walker said.

“I think the cut in the track also helped, but we’ve always thought he was going to make a nice staying horse.

“We’ve been patient with him, too, and I think as a five-year-old he’ll end being a really nice horse.”

Savoir Faire is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Etiqutte, a sister to the multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Sacred Falls.

Etiquette is also the dam of the dual Group 3 winner Milford and has an unraced Savabeel juvenile, who was a $200,000 purchase for Gai Waterhouse, Adrian Bott, and Chris Rutten Bloodstock.

She also produced a son of Savabeel last season and is back in foal again to the multiple champion sire.

Savoir Faire was bought by Te Akau’s David Ellis for $640,000 at New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale, where he was offered on behalf of Waikato Stud by Ohukia Lodge.
