Sprinter too slick at Te Rapa
Quality sprinter Wewillrock produced another sterling performance over 1200 metres at Te
Rapa on Friday afternoon to put away his open class rivals with authority.
The Guy Lowry and Leah Zydenbos-trained son of El Roca was quickly into stride from the
inside barrier to make the running under apprentice Liam Kauri, who upped the tempo before
the turn.
Wewillrock held a strong gallop to the post for his fourth win on the course and eighth overall
from 23 appearances.
Raced by Waikato Stud’s Mark Chittick and Hawke’s Bay brothers Paul and Mark Apatu, the
six-year-old has also placed at Group 3 level in the Almanzor Trophy and Cambridge
Breeders’ Stakes and in the Listed City of Napier Sprint and Bob Charley Stakes.
“We’re just taking it one race at a time with him and he probably won’t be in for much longer
before he has a break,” Lowry said.
“He’s the sort of horse that enjoys the soft tracks, but not heavy. Either side of spring and
autumn is his time.”
A grandson of multiple stakes winner Wazawatsyn, Wewillrock was purchased by Lowry out
of Westbury Stud’s draft at Karaka for $35,000.
