Successful maiden voyage for Ocean Park filly

Ocean Park

Rocking The Boat has a hard act to follow, but the daughter of Ocean Park made a stylish start with a debut victory on the Lakeside track at Sandown on Wednesday afternoon.

She won over 1300 metres at the first time of asking with a minimum of fuss for trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, who prepare the three-year-old for breeders Waikato Stud.

“They have sent us over a nice one, just like the last one in Acting,” Young said.

Savabeel’s daughter Acting won three races, including the G3 Tranquil Star Stakes and finished fifth in the G1 Thousand Guineas before joining the Matamata farm’s broodmare band.

Rocking The Boat jumped well to sit in fourth spot on the fence and took advantage of a rails run at the top of the straight to finish off strongly in the hands of Luke Currie and win with authority.

“Luke put her in a great spot and got her to relax and she extended nicely,” Young said.

“Being by Ocean Park, she will be better over further and there’s a race over 1500 metres for her back here in a fortnight. She’s a quality filly going forward.”

Rocking The Boat is out of the late O’Reilly mare Dating who was a two-time Group 3 winner and all of her foals to race have been successful, including the black type performer Date Night.

Farm yarns: Mark Chittick
