Super Seth Metro Double In Australia

Fourth that start prior to another son of Super Seth in Botanical Boy, the Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman trained Supernima (NZ) dropped significantly in weight from his last start effort, lining up in the Thank You Volunteers Trophy (1400m) at Flemington as one of the leading chances.

Sitting handy throughout, the gelding came into the home turn just outside the leader, and while nothing was making much ground up, jockey Luke Nolen asked the Woburn Farm graduate for an effort, and he responded as the Dalziel Racing colour-bearer extended away to win.

Taking his overall record to four wins and eight placed efforts from 18 starts, the NZ$80,000 Karaka graduated has now earned over A$240,000 for his connections.

A half-brother to G3 winners Tomelilla (Tavistock) and Viktor Vegas (Tavistock), the Mr R A Emery-bred Supernima (above) is the second last foal out of the Dubai Destination mare Purnima and was sold at the 2023 New Zealand Bloodstock Book 1 yearling sale as Lot 444.

Just over an hour later, the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton trained Cross Tasman continued to highlight his class, ploughing through the wet conditions at Rosehill Gardens to recorded his fourth career win, and third in a row this time in.

Sent out the short-priced favourite, jockey Dylan Gibbons had the Waikato Stud graduate sitting just off the pace, and just before turning into the home straight it appeared as if he was starting to struggle in the conditions, but alas, he was just getting warmed up!

“He never grabbed the bit at all when I would have liked,” Gibbons said.

“He was funny, he got into his spot and dipped and dived a bit. When I was having to encourage him through that I thought it might take away from his finish, but he might be pretty good.

“I got to the 300m and I thought it was going to be hard work but I had a cheeky look a long way out because I just felt him go into over-drive.

“This guy, with his attitude and the way he races, I’m going to say it was an unpreferred surface and the way he blew them away late, I love the way he did it today.”

Sporting the WS brand, Cross Tasman (above) was purchased from our 2023 draft by John O’Shea and bloodstock agent Suman hedge for $260,000.

One of six winners out of the triple G1-winning No Excuses mare Daffodil, whose elite level victories included an Australian Oaks and New Zealand 2000 Guineas, Cross Tasman sports the silks of Ron Finemore’s Finemore Thoroughbreds.

“Off that win, you wouldn’t rule out 2000m and even beyond,” Gibbons said.

“He has just got that perfect temperament, he just switches off and once I got stuck into him, where I thought I was really going to have to get into him, he just clicked into another gear and away he went.”

As part of our 77 strong, Book 1 and Book 2 drafts, we will present the current yearling from Daffodil, a colt from the second crop of Savabeel’s G1-winning son Noverre. Selling as Lot 371, the colt (above) is one of 18 Book 1 yearlings catalogued by the New Zealand 2000 Guineas winner.

With the sale set to commence on Sunday 25th January, our draft has arrived at the complex and will start parading on Tuesday, January 20, Super Seth is well represented in the sale with 46 yearlings with 19 lots in our Book 1 draft.
