Super Seths hugely popular
Super Seth’s stallion profile continues to grow with progeny of Waikato Stud’s young gun keenly sought-after during New Zealand Bloodstock’s Ready to Run Sale.
Victorian horseman Dominic Sutton is a member of the fan club and he closed a major deal to secure a handsome colt by the stallion at Karaka on Thursday afternoon.
Sutton teamed up with Byron Rogers to have the final say at $420,000 for Lot 226 offered by KB Bloodstock on behalf of Tim Askew of Pimina Lodge who bought him as a $70,000 yearling from Waikato Stud’s draft in January, a special result for Tim who is in his first year of business.
The chestnut is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Tiff And Co, a half-sister to the Australian stakes winner Single.
Sutton enjoyed the biggest moment of his fledgling training career with Super Seth’s son Feroce, who won twice as a two-year-old before finishing a luckless runner-up in the G1 Caulfield Guineas.
Waikato Stud’s draft also featured a colt by their Group 1-winning son of Dundeel and he had widespread admirers before Lot 330 was knocked down to Hong Kong interests for $330,000.
He is out of the former top Savabeel mare Coldplay, winner of six races including the Rich Hill Mile and the Cal Isuzu Stakes at Group 2 level as well as the G3 Eagle Technology Stakes and the G3 Eulogy Stakes.
Coldplay is also a three-quarter sister to the Listed Rowley Mile winner Savacool while another decorated member of the family is the Listed Red Roses Stakes winner and multiple Group 1 placegetter The Big Chill.
It was great to have long-time friend of WS, Gary Wallace who we’ve been friends with since our days in Palmerston North and Centaine with Garry Chittick, come and watch his Super Seth ex Cold Play go through.
As always, progeny of Waikato Stud’s multiple champion sire Savabeel were in demand and early on Day One a colt took the eye of Te Akau chief David Ellis who went to $330,000 for the colt.
Offered by Westbury Stud as Lot 13, he is out of Jolie Blonde, whose four career victories featured success in the Listed Hareeba Stakes.
Associate sire Ardrossan also enjoyed a grand result when his son, Lot 24, was sold to Hong Kong interests for $250,000 – KM Yeung of the ‘Patch’ moniker in Hong Kong purchased two by Ardrossan.
He came through the Lilywhites Lodge consignment and is out of the Per Incanto mare La Donna who is a three-quarter sister to the Listed Matamata Slipper winner and G1 Manawatu Sires’ Produce Stakes runner-up Rocanto.
Ocean Park also had a great sale with YPL of Victoria taking home Lot 202, a filly, for $210,000.
Tivaci’s Movie Night steals the show at Newcastle
