Waihaha Falls back in business

An outstanding ride from Tommy Berry guided Waihaha Falls to an overdue victory at Randwick on Saturday afternoon.
Raced by breeders Waikato Stud and Hastings-based horseman Guy Lowry, the son of the late Sacred Falls overcame an on-pace bias to account for his Benchmark 100 rivals over 1400 metres.
It was the six-year-old’s first success for 17 months, although he had posted five placings between times.
“I thought we would be just practicing, given the nature of where he would be in the run,” trainer John O’Shea said.
“I have been so happy with the horse though and Tommy produced a great ride.”
Waihaha Falls drifted to a clear last from a wide barrier and an irresistible finish near the fence earned him the fifth win of his career.
He is a son of Think Mink, who was a winner in New Zealand from Lowry’s stable and was subsequently twice successful for O’Shea.
By Scaredee Cat, she is from the immediate family of the Listed WATC St Leger winner Crumpet O’Reilly, whose sister Zumanity finished runner-up in the G1 Queensland Oaks.
