Waikato Stud & Kaha Nui Farm – Cyclone Donation
Following the devastation left by Cyclone Gabrielle, Waikato Stud principals Mark and Pippa Chittick, alongside Kaha Nui Farm’s Nick and Nicky White, have taken the initiative to donate in aid of the flood-ravaged areas through the New Zealand Red Cross disaster fund.
Waikato Stud have already donated horse feed, water, stock feed and cash, and now look to do their part in aid of the wider community. Together, Waikato Stud and Kaha Nui Farm will donate a total of $10,000 in cash to help those in affected areas get back on their feet.
In further support of our friends in the equine industry, Waikato Stud and the Ardrossan Syndicate have also donated a nomination to their young stallion which will be auctioned on Gavelhouse next week, with the proceeds going directly to support the needs of those in the equine community.
Waikato Stud’s Mark Chittick commented: “We caught up with Nick and Nicky White over a cup of tea, discussing a couple of matters. Obviously, in the forefront of our minds is the disaster that has developed in the last couple of weeks through the affected regions, especially in Hawkes Bay.
“We all have associates and friends in those areas outside of the horse industry, and have donated through the initiatives of the thoroughbred industry to help those that are involved with horses.
“But, we felt it was appropriate to go that bit further, and donate what we could in a monetary value through the business fund, to reach those outside the horse industry.
“On everyone’s minds is how we can help. Our contribution might only be small in comparison to the heartwarming collective efforts we’ve witnessed, but we hope it’s of some help.
“We love and enjoy the Hawkes Bay area and there are so many people dear to our hearts down there. If we can help out in some small way to get them back on track then it’s our duty to do so.”
Meanwhile, Nick White was also delighted to be able to help, adding: “We all have connections to these areas where the loss has been incomprehensible, so hopefully this contribution can go some way to helping those most in need”.
The Corner with Garry Chittick
I keep on proposing my retirement from the burden of a weekly Corner. I make the excuse it is hard to be credible, hard to let the two of you know about anything in our sport that hasn’t been covered before.
