Wolfy shows true colours at Sale
The faithful were rewarded at Sale on Sunday afternoon when the well-related Wolfy delivered the first victory of his brief career.
The son of Tivaci was again sent out a hot favourite and this time the three-year-old delivered in style over 1400 metres in the hands of Blake Shinn.
Prepared by Nick Ryan, the Waikato Stud graduate settled third last before improving widest on the turn and sailed home under hands and heels riding to win with authority.
“I was pretty confident and it was just a matter of letting him settle and he’s a horse going places,” Shinn said.
“He’s been really well educated and has got a good mind so it was nice to see him show what he can really do.”
Wolfy had been the subject of strong support in his previous three outings, finishing runner-up at Caulfield last season behind subsequent Group 3 placegetter Ouroboros, sixth at Sandown and second again at Geelong last month.
The colt was purchased by Ryan for A$280,000 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale where he was offered on behalf of Waikato Stud by Sledmere Stud.
He is out of the Savabeel mare She’s Popular, who has produced two more colts by Tivaci since Wolfy, and her dam It Girl is a sister to the late multiple Group 1 winner and successful sire Sacred Falls.
