WS-bred On The Lash scores at Sha Tin
Twenty-four hours following the final WS Cox Plate meeting run on the Moonee Valley track of old before it shuts for two years to make way for a new precinct, the race’s 2004 winner, Savabeel, continued his roll of runners, and this time it was via five-year-old On The Lash (ex Candelabra) at Sha Tin.
Kicking off the ten-race card, Luke Ferraris took the Pierre Ng-trained runner saluted by one length across the 1800m trip, adding to his sire Savabeel’s five winners’ haul across the weekend.
On The Lash was bred by Garrry Chittick and sold through the 2022 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale via Stonehouse Thoroughbreds when purchased by Busuttin Racing for A$230,000.
Out of the Pins mare Candelabra, he is the fourth live foal of the mare who foaled a colt by Ardrossan this season and has a Noverre yearling filly. His three-quarter sibling, a two-year-old filly by Noverre, named Chatoyer, was bought by Annabel Neasham Racing and William Johnson Bloodstock (FBAA) at this year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for A$140,000.
Wee Nessy breaks her maiden in style
Savabeel’s three-year-old filly Wee Nessy impressed at Ellerslie, charging home to break her maiden in dominant fashion. The win marked Savabeel’s 1057th individual winner, with his progeny earnings surpassing $208 million as his legacy continues to grow.
