Wymark shows his class with impressive Group win

In form three-year-old son of Savabeel, Wymark proved his staying capabilities with an impressive victory in the G2 Tulloch Stakes for Michael Freedman over 2000 metres at Rosehill, his fourth win on the bounce.

Connections will now pay a A$44,000 late entry fee for the Waikato Stud graduate to take his place in next Saturday’s G1 Australian Derby over 2400 metres at Randwick.

“It’s a big carrot dangling there and historically, this race has proved a good guide to the Derby,” Freedman said.

“He has run out a solid 2000 metres and done a great job, so hopefully he’ll front up again.

“I had him pegged as a 1400 metre to a mile type earlier, and since he’s stepped up in distance he’s relished it.

“I am mindful that he’s been up for a while, but he’s showing no signs of feeling the pinch.”

Wymark jumped well and settled midfield off the fence for rider Tommy Berry and, from sixth at the top of the straight, strode to the front 200 metres from home.

He was offered on behalf of Waikato Stud by Sledmere Stud at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale where he was sold to Mick Wallace for A$200,000.

He is out of the unraced O’Reilly mare Pasadena, a sister to the former champion three-year-old, multiple Group 1 winner and sire Alamosa.

Their dam is the Centaine mare Lodore Mystic and she is a sister to the G2 City of Sails winner Perfect World and to the dam of the G1 Diamond Stakes winner Dal Cielo with the G1 Schweppes Oaks heroine Lights Of Heaven also on the pedigree page.

Pasadena’s daughter of Savabeel was bought by Te Akau’s David Ellis at Karaka in January for $80,000 and the mare had a filly by Noverre last year and is in foal to Tivaci.
