Hasabro far too good in White Robe

Hasabro

Hasabro had conditions firmly in his favour in the G3 White Robe Lodge and the model professional duly took advantage at Wingatui.

The son of Savabeel has been in fine touch since joining Andrew Carston’s Riccarton stable and coped admirably under hefty imposts, having twice won under 60kg, so the weight-for-age scale ideally suited him on Saturday afternoon.

Successful on all types of going, the Go Racing-owned gelding handled the rain-affected ground like a toff to add to his black-type tally after claiming the Listed Hazlett S. on the course on Boxing Day.

He was tardily into stride today and settled second last under rider Jake Lowry before they circled the field near the turn and proved dominant in the run home.

“Hasabro was hugely impressive. To be fair, considering the weight-for-age conditions and how well
off he was at the weights, the race did look like it was at his mercy, but it was a big thrill to see him win the way he did,” Go Racing’s Albert Bosma said.

“I’ll have to talk to Andrew Carston about what we might do next. His rating now means he’ll be
top weight in any handicap he runs in, but I wouldn’t mind having a look at the G1 El Cheapo Cars
WFA Classic at Otaki on February 26. A weight-for-age race over a mile would suit him, so that might be worthwhile.

“If he runs well there, we could even look at the G1 Bonecrusher New Zealand S. at Ellerslie, it’s
something to think about.”

Hasabro was bred by Waikato Stud with leading Sydney trainer John O’Shea’s wife Isabelle and was a $220,000 Karaka purchase for Albert Bosma’s Go Racing syndication company, who also raced his G1 New Zealand 1000 Guineas-winning sister Hasahalo.

Their half-sisters All Saint’s Eve and All Hallows’ Eve, both by Sacred Falls, are both also Group 3
winners and are out of the Encosta De Lago mare Halloween, who is from the family of Savabeel’s Group-winning sons Savvy Nature and Addictive Nature.
