Savabeel’s son bags another deserved win

Sly Corner is rarely far off the action and the son of Savabeel posted a well-earned victory at Bendigo on Saturday afternoon.

It was the 4-year-old’s second career victory and a further six placings – five of those runner-up finishes – from his 14 starts is evidence of his genuine nature.

Trained by Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young, the Waikato Stud graduate was quickly into stride over 1300 metres to trail on the fence and, once into the clear 250 metres from home, he exploded clear to score by 2.25l.

Sly Corner was bought out of the Matamata farm’s New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sale draft for $190,000 with Busuttin, First Light Racing and agent Paul Willetts signing the ticket.

He is a son of the unraced O’Reilly mare Diana Dors, who is a sister to the Group 2 winners Vigor, also placed in the G1 Caulfield Cup, and Joey Massino and a half-sister to the inaugural Karaka Million winner Vincent Mangano.

Diana Dors delivered a filly by Tivaci in 2021 and was subsequently served by Ardrossan.
