Trainer brings smart 4YO back in style
The conditioning skills of David Vandyke were to the fore on Wednesday afternoon at Doomben where the promising Deep Tempest successfully returned to racing.
The Sunshine Coast trainer had the winning polish on the Waikato Stud-bred and sold son of Ocean Park to resume over 1350 metres in grand fashion off a nine-month break.
Deep Tempest broke quickly and relaxed well in second spot under rider Stephanie Thornton and stayed on strongly to score after hitting the front soon after straightening.
The patiently handled four-year-old now has a brace of wins and two placings from his five appearances and looks set to continue his way through the grades.
Deep Tempest was originally purchased out of Waikato Stud’s New Zealand Bloodstock Yearling Sale draft for $40,000 and made his way to Queensland after he was resold for $50,000 at the Ready to Run Sale.
He is a son of the late Pins mare Haberdashery, a half-sister to the G1 Queensland Derby winner Lachlan River.
She has a 100 percent record at stud with all eight of her foals successful and includes G2 Queen of the South S. winner Fabric and the Listed Oaks Prelude winner Sewreel.
