Tivaci filly romps home

Tivaci

A massive weight of expectation didn’t hold Ferlazzo back this afternoon at Ballarat where the Tivaci
filly won the In Honour of Dean Holland Plate untouched over 1400 metres.

The three-year-old had placed in two of her previous three runs for trainers Mick Price and Michael
Kent Jnr and was sent out a red-hot favourite.

Ferlazzo raced in behind the pace and, once into the clear at the top of the straight, she lengthened stride under hands and heels riding from Damien Oliver to win with authority.

“She was really suited by the step up in trip, 1200 metres is a bit sharp for her,” he said.

“I took the trail and peeled off nicely and she won very well. I think 1400 to a mile in city class will suit her.”

Bred by Waikato Stud, Ferlazzo was purchased via the Gavelhouse platform by trainer Jenna Mahoney for $8500 and won a two-year-old trial at Ellerslie before her sale to Australian interests.

She is a daughter of the O’Reilly mare Black Belt and most notably the family of Master Belt, who won the G1 New Zealand 2000 Guineas from Kevin Gray’s stable.
